Topic: Legal Issues

Intellectual property law is often a confusing mystery to small businesses, but it can be a source of value or of trouble, depending on the context. This educational webinar will seek to clarify the most important legal concepts around “IP” and to explain its relevance to a variety of businesses. It will set out the differences between copyright, patent, trademark and trade secret, and explore how each of them can be used, playing “offense,” to protect and create value and how each can present problems when the rights of others are infringed – “defense.” We will also provide links to further resources so that you can follow up yourself on the matters that most apply.

Speaker(s): Oliver Goodenough has taught intellectual property at Vermont Law School, Dartmouth College, and the University of Vermont. He is also himself involved in an emerging business, serving on the board and as an officer of a company applying artificial intelligence approaches to questions of law and finance.
